Account Setup & First Steps
Create your James Analytics account, configure initial settings, and learn what to expect from the platform.
Step 1
Creating Your Account
Getting started with James Analytics takes less than two minutes. Head to app.jamesanalytics.com and click “Get Started Free.” We only ask for your name, email, and a password — no credit card is needed to begin. You’ll also set up multi-factor authentication (MFA) during registration for added security.
After you submit the registration form, check your inbox for a verification email. Click the link to confirm your address and you’ll be taken directly into the platform. If you don’t see the email within a couple of minutes, check your spam folder or request a new verification link from the login page.
Every new account starts on the Free plan, which includes full access to financial statements, basic KPI dashboards, and one connected data source. You can upgrade at any time as your needs grow — there is no trial period to worry about.

Step 2
Initial Configuration
After your first login, James walks you through a short setup wizard. You’ll enter your company name and select your industry. These settings take about thirty seconds to complete and make your James experience more useful from the start.
The industry selection is especially important. James uses it to generate relevant benchmarks and comparisons for your KPI dashboards. A SaaS company will see metrics like MRR, churn, and LTV front and center, while a professional services firm will see utilization rates and revenue per employee. Choosing the right industry ensures the AI insights and recommendations are tailored to your business model.

Your Roadmap
Your First Week
Getting value from James Analytics doesn’t take weeks of onboarding. Most users have their first actionable insights within 24 hours of connecting their data. Here is a recommended timeline to help you make the most of your first week on the platform.
Connect Your Data
Link your QuickBooks, Xero, or Puzzle.io account — or upload a CSV export. The initial sync typically takes 2-5 minutes depending on your transaction volume. Once complete, James automatically generates your financial statements.
Review Auto-Generated Statements
Open the Financials tab and review your Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Statement. Check that the numbers match your expectations. James maps your chart of accounts automatically, but you can adjust any mapping in Settings if needed.
Explore AI Insights
Navigate to the Insights tab and try asking James a few questions: "What drove the change in revenue last month?" or "What are my top 5 expense categories?" The AI analyzes your actual data and responds with specific numbers and trends.
Set Up Budgets & Forecasts
Once you are comfortable with your financial data, head to Planning. Create your first budget by starting with last year's actuals as a baseline, then adjust line items for expected changes. Set up a 12-month rolling forecast to model your growth trajectory.
Pro Tip
Complete your company profile in Settings before diving into AI Insights. Adding your industry, company stage, and a brief description of your business model helps James generate significantly more relevant and accurate answers. The AI uses this context to frame recommendations around your specific situation rather than giving generic advice.
